Had one.
A "possessed" motorcycle
Broke everytime I rode it despite spending all the money in the right places.
TZ for the road, ho ho ho.
Sold it.

Bit harsh as there are good ones out there!

yes - you are missing the point a bit.......This article is about what could be done and it is a stunning hybrid of RZ/R6/R1 parts that could reflect what Yamaha would be producing today if the smog police had allowed and you would need to bear in mind that 2 stroke engine technology would have evolve considerably

True, but having had one (and a few through the family - 5-6 last count), in hindsight and from the benefit of 5500km on one and owning TZ's, they are not the bike that many people think they are....

A good one is a nice bike, don't get me wrong, but I'm not hankering to own another.

Haven't had the mag yet as it won;t be here until the weekend, and despite by luke warm feelings towards them, now it won't stop me reading the article with significant interest.

If someone put some true effort into a modern 500 replica, I'd probably be well into it and the OW01 would be on the market in a flash!

RZ500/R6 not a new thing, guy in melb did one about 3 years ago Pete Gibson did the pipes for it, and AMCN did a write up on it.
OW01 for sale did I here ??????

Only if it was a true 2013 incarnation of YZR500 with a modern motor and chassis. I dunno 180 hp!

Bike at the top looks interesting, though as Alistair says, they are not quite the bike everyone expects -the impression is they are a TZ750 for the road, with some rumours of the gearbox/clutch being the same ratios, size, etc. They are not: as a racer the ratios are too wide, though they do work well on the road. The motor is easy to make go well, with Yamaha details on porting, etc...and the comment that at 120hp the cranks might give trouble.

Good fun though, expectially when you ditch the xtock 38tooth rear sporcket and go to 45 or 47 -max speed about 200 kliks, but they get there fast!

Had 3 or 4 of them over the years..

Bought one for a Castrol 6 Hour at Oran park - Terry Yates and myself tried to ride the bugger of a thing in practise but it was doing it's best to kill us every time we went out. Tank slapped like a bitch everywhere - had no steering damper and really, really needed one. Parked it and successfully rode an RZ350 in the race instead - much more well behaved .

Rode an RZ500 in the 1985 NZ Castrol 6 hr, I was surprised how good it was around Manfield, finished about 6th, not a bad weekend
